The State of Mississippi is going after uninsured drivers. Mississippi drivers who get behind the wheel and do not have proof of insurance could pay up to $500 in fines or face a suspended driver's license for up to one year. Effective September 1, 2017, Mississippi began using a statewide electronic insurance verification program that uses a car's VIN number to find out whether the driver has purchased valid auto insurance or not.
