Effective July 1, 2015, drivers in Tennessee who do not have proper insurance face a fine of $300, up from the previous $100 fine. From January 1, 2016 and onwards, the police can have your auto immediately towed if you are unable to produce proof of valid insurance. From now until January 1, 2017, Tennessee will be working on creating and implementing a new online system to verify drivers’ insurance. This digital program tracks down drivers who have not purchased valid insurance through their vehicle registration information. If a vehicle is identified as having an uninsured owner, the owner will not be able to renew their vehicle's registration.
