What You Need to Know About Tennessee's New Insurance Laws

As of July 1, 2015, drivers in Tennessee who do not have proper insurance face a fine of $300, up from the previous $100 fine. Following January 1, 2016, the police could legally have you car immediately towed away if you are unable to produce proof of valid insurance. From now until January 1, 2017, the state of Tennessee will be creating and getting into place a state-of-the-art insurance verification system. This new program will be able to locate drivers who do not have valid insurance by reviewing digital vehicle registration records. If the system finds that a vehicle is uninsured, the vehicle will not be eligible for registration renewal.
