As of July 1, 2015, uninsured drivers in Tennessee caught driving without the proper insurance will face an increased fine, up from $100 to now $300. After January 1, 2016, law enforcement officials are legally allowed to have your auto immediately towed if proof of valid insurance is not produced. Up until January 1, 2017, Tennessee will be working on implementing an online insurance verification program. Once in place, the system can track down drivers who do not have valid insurance, all through vehicle registration records. Vehicles that are owned by uninsured drivers will be ineligible for renewal.
