As of July 1, 2015, uninsured drivers in Tennessee caught driving without the proper insurance will face an increased fine, up from $100 to now $300. Following January 1, 2016, the police can have your auto immediately towed if you cannot produce proof of valid insurance. Prior to January 1, 2017, the state of Tennessee will be creating and getting into place a state-of-the-art insurance verification system. This new program will be able to locate drivers who have not purchased valid insurance through their vehicle registration information. If the system finds that a vehicle is uninsured, the vehicle will not be eligible for registration renewal.
